I am big on goals. I think they can change everything, starting with attitude & perspective. Project:BeLove is a manifestation of a few personal initiatives. If it never progressed beyond that, I'd consider it a success because of what it has allowed me to do. But it has the potential to change the world, or at least, my world, and yours.
Think: "Pay It Forward". Think: "Respect". Think: "Be the change you wish to see in the world". Think: "It takes one person to make a differnce."
Think whatever you want. Participate or don't. Base it on spiritual grounds, or human grounds. Make it selfish, or self-less. Let it touch you. Let it warm your heart, if even momentarily, that though we are all broken strangers consumed with too many things, we can still acknowledge that we exist in the same space for just a moment. Maybe with a smile, or eye contact, or a hot cup of coffee, or a "have a great day", or "thank you", something.
If you have never had a stranger make your day, you are missing out. If you have never reached outside your "zone" in your day, or commute and connected with someone, you are missing out. Try it. I am addicted to making other people smile because it sets me on fire. It is first and foremost a selfish act. I've begun listening to or recognizing what people need without knowing it, and if I can help, I do.
Harder than touching strangers has been learning to channel that same well wishing and support to people you know. Baggage and old wounds make this a challenge every day. Let's leave that for the 200 level course. Let me just say that if you want to change your immediate world, look at the people around you.
Start there. It isn't as easy as one act of kindness, but commit to improving the lives around you and you will find that your issues and worries are taken care of. A rising tide lifts all ships. Or something.
So, here is my pledge, my resolution, my revolution:
At least one random act of love per day for 2012.
Some will come with Tags, some just smiles.
No obligations, No expectations.
A project to momentarily brighten 365 days.
A Project to be the change you wish to see in the world.
A Project to BeLove.
This is who I am. This is the truest expression of my beliefs.
Love can change the world. One tiny insignificant touch at a time.
Here is my challenge to you: Reach Out & Touch Somebody.
Just one. Just once. Or make it a habit.
Tell them about Project:BeLove, or don't.
It isn't about what happens here, it is about what happens out there, and all the ripples you can't see.
...Because, on some level, this is because of a school crossing guard who pulled me out of a funk one morning and turned my day around because of the joy she had in her heart for life when she wished me a good day. And because going back and thanking her the next day, made hers...
You can spread love. or not.
The choice is yours.
Every minute of every day.
